Autumn Concert 2014

The Autumn concert, held in September was a great success, with nearly a dozen musicians from the locality generously giving their time and talents to ensure a great day for residents, relatives and staff. Thank you all who made this wonderful day possible.

Cór na nÓg  On the evening of 15th December the local youth choir, Cór na nÓg from Spiddal, came to the Áras to perform for our residents.  It was a lovely session which was enjoyed by our residents, parents and staff alike.    The Christmas tree twinkling in the corner of the sittingroom and the decorations and lights on the patio upstairs added immensely to the festive atmosphere.  This is an annual event which is thoroughly enjoyed by the residents and the children, not to mention the staff!   Katie asked the residents for feedback on the event the following day and the feedback was extremely positive.  Resident comments were that it 'was great'; that 'the children sang like angels'; that 'it was wonderful', and that 'the children were great'.  All in all, a wonderfully, happy, memorable and joyous event for all of us in the Áras.
Twenty three of our residents chose to attend and they gathered together in the upstairs sitting room where the performance took place.  As usual, there were 3 performers in total – 2 ladies and 1 gentleman.  They performed a selection of songs from the silver screen, West End and Broadway.  It was most enjoyable and our residents sang along and clapped their way through the performance. It was a very interactive performance with the performers actively including the residents, relatives and staff in their routine.   There was a wonderfully, happy atmosphere in the room with residents, relatives and staff clapping and singing along to the music. Residents thanked the performers for the 'wonderful show' and a recent resident to the Áras, thanked Katie, for organising such a 'great show'!  Another resident said: 'was wonderful to hear the old tunes', another added: "bhí sé go hálainn". This was a most enjoyable event for our residents and staff members, which was funded by Cairde Áras Chois Fharraige.  Music events are always popular in the Áras and this event was most certainly enjoyed by residents, relatives and staff alike.  We hope to ask the Butterfly Company to return again before the end of the year to perform once again for our residents.

It seems like a long time ago now but this year’s summer barbeque on July 6th was a great success with about 50 people. Thanks to all who made it possible and attended and thanks to staff members for putting in the effort on this and all other activities and outings.

As well as our weekly music sessions, there are regular concerts, dramatic performances and other events throughout the year. Below are a few highlights from recent years.
