The Áras team
Our Director of Nursing Pat, and Clinical Nurse Managers Cliona and Bertie lead the Care Team of more than forty nurses and health care assistants.
Staff members are at all times mindful that residents do not live in our workplace, we work in their home.
The Áras Care Team is committed to excellence in care provision and consistently achieves among the best healthcare outcomes of any nursing home in Ireland, as measured using client satisfaction and clinical indicators.
Our philosophy of care
The staff at Áras Chois Fharraige are committed to providing a caring environment which offers each resident the opportunity to develop their own potential and the freedom to choose their own course of action.

o We aim to provide care which is tailored to the individual needs of our residents. We will respect the need for privacy and will strive to maintain dignity and independence.

A commitment to excellence
Each staff member has an employment file, which is maintained by the PIC, and includes Garda vetting, curriculum vitae and references. All staff have written job descriptions and a copy of their terms and conditions. An audit of staff files found that 100% of staff files contained correct Garda vetting documentation.
More than 50% of healthcare assistants have achieved the FETAC level 5 course in Care for the Elderly. In addition 21 per cent of Health Care Assistants are training to become nurses and have completed between one and three years of the nursing degree in NUIG.
The care we provide
At Áras Chois Fharraige we provide:
o 24 hour nursing care cover
o Regular GP visits or the choice to
retain your own GP
o Out of hours medical service provided
by West Doc
o Regular visits from the pharmacist
o Alzheimer and dementia care subject
to assessment
o Respite, convalescent and end of life care
o Nurse call system that can be connected to chair or bed mats.
o Specialised pressure relieving mattresses/ cushions.
o Specialist lifting and handling equipment
o Recreational activities
o We also arrange referrals for Physiotherapy, Chiropody, Dietician, Dental, Optician and a range of other health care professionals.
