The Áras is an award-winning care home where elderly Irish speakers are cared for in their first language
The home is located in the Irish-speaking Conamara Gaeltacht. Seventy per cent of residents are native Irish speakers and some are not comfortable conversing in English.
It is home to 42 residents who are served by a care team of 45 nursing and other staff, in spacious en-suite bedrooms overlooking Galway Bay.

Palliative and end of life care is delivered with dignity, sensitivity and discretion.

Meals are cooked on-site by qualified chefs, with at least at least two options for each meal.

Each residents’ individual care plan is discussed with them and is based on comprehensive assessments.

Diet & nutrition
All meals are freshly prepared using only the finest locally-sourced ingredients. There are at least two options for each meal. Our chefs are also happy to cater for any individual requests.
Activities
Our activities co-ordinator ensures there is always plenty to do at the Áras, with live music , bingo, a knitting circle, concerts, pet therapy and many other weeky activities.
Care awards
Recent awards include the Grand Supreme Prize at the Irish Accommodation Awards , as well as a GOLD AWARD for excellence in hygiene and cleanliness for the fifth year in a row.
